I was offered this ARC by the publisher for an honest opinion.
The world changed on April 24th, 20-, at approximately 12:23:15 PM EST it started to rain in Greenville, SC. although the precipitation predicted was 0%. Minutes later it rained all over the world, but it wasn’t normal watery rain, it was more like a slimy, gunky substance. Little did the world’s population realise how much the world was going to change.
The story centres on a group of random people taking refuge in a café at the local University. This is a story of human reaction to an adverse situation; how normal people drastically change to situations out of their control.
I love the way the author has created the characters, some trying to help and others hell bend on throwing out the people who were drenched with the slimy substance on their way to the café, especially a character which is a real ass, looking out for himself, which, in a way, I think is understandable due to the nature of the situation.
I was completely hooked from the beginning, an episode of the original Twilight Zone springs to mind, wherein in a normal town there’s a power cut and isolated from the rest of the world, actually one of the characters mentions this in the story.
My first from the author and definitely checking his other works. Mr Gunnells you have yourself another fan.
Mark Allan Gunnells loves to tell stories. He has since he was a kid, penning one-page tales that
were Twilight Zone knockoffs. He likes to think he has gotten a little better since then. He loves reader feedback, and above all he loves telling stories. He lives in Greer, SC, with his husband Craig A. Metcalf
