Dirty Little Secret (Louise Miller #1) by Jonathan Peace

I nearly passed the chance to read "Dirty Little Secret" because I started with book 3, but I realised and was recommended to start from the beginning, I'm so glad I did because I wanted to find out how the characters met/developed and how their relationship grew.

It's March 1987, WDC Louise Miller is a day away from joining Ossett, West Yorkshire constabulary she decides to go for a run, to familiarise herself with the place. She discovers a body in a telephone box and immediately her training kicks in and she starts securing the scene. She calls the station and initially she's dismissed as a crank call, not a good start.

I loved everything about the book, the setting, the characters, especially WDC Louise Miller, actually, she hates being called Woman DC are her male colleagues called Male DC? of course not, after all, it's the 80s were women are not viewed as equal but time will tell.

For me the 80s were a fantastic decade, I was a teen then, and Jonathan captures the essence and the attitudes of the era. Love the Marathon (chocolate) reference.

Overall an amazing start to the series, and an excellent read, one of my 2023 top reads. If you're looking for a great series you can't go wrong with Jonathan's story.
